Jason’s Statham’s In Love With the Audi R8

It should come as no shock to any Jason Statham fan that he loves Audi. And it’s not just because the brand is his “Transporter” character’s preferred method of travel.

Jason says he’s loved the stylish and sporty elegance, and high-output performance offered by the car-maker since he was a young teenager in Britain.

In fact, he’s one of Audi’s biggest celebrity supporters and has in fact, completed several commercial advertisements for them to date.

Check out this superbowl commercial:

In fact, Statham has two R8’s; one black and one white. Though they both belong to the same Audi lineup, they’re vastly different cars under the hood!

 Statham’s Black Audi R8:

  • Mid-engine V10 power plant
  • 552 horsepower
  • 398 ft-lb torque
  • 0 – 60mph in 3.4 seconds
  • 8,700 red line (wow!)
  • Top speed of 195 mph
  • Custom red Brembo brake calipers

*This car is every bit a supercar. Spec’d by Audi as a maximum performance and comfort variant of its Lamborghini Gallardo lineup. It gets a whopping 13 mpg in town and up to 22 mpg on the highway – assuming you’re taking it easy on the throttle!

Statham’s White Audi R8 (his favorite):

  • V8 engine
  • 430 horsepower
  • 317 ft-pd torque
  • 0 – 60 mph in 4.0 seconds
  • Top speed of 168 mph

*Though a toned-down “base” version of the R8 lineup. The R8 V8-powered version isn’t bad. Statham prefers this car over the black V10, and even loves it more than his UK-manufactured Aston Martin Vanquish – though he’s never given a specific reason why. Statham was gifted this car by the car-maker for his epic role in the movie Transporter.

Men’s Health Interview: “Launch Pad” Insanity!

Mike Zimmerman from Men’s Health took a drive with Statham in the V8 and felt like he was on the set of one of Statham’s movies when the two hit Sunset Boulevard:

“As if someone called ahead and choreographed it. That’s the traffic setup before us on Sunset Boulevard: a half-dozen cars staggered at intervals between two lanes. Jason Statham, the Transporter himself, sees this and smirks. “Oh yeah, mate.” He drops the stick down into second and pops it. The engine wails and my skull slams back into the headrest. The wind tears through the open window, and I clamp onto the window frame, because this little monster car has nothing else to hold on to. That may be its only design flaw.

Statham weaves through the traffic. Slips it into third. Approaches 70 on the speedometer. Two cars, three, four. We’re in a friggin’ movie now. Then I see it coming up fast, less than 100 yards ahead: yellow light. Statham snakes past one more SUV, slips in front of it, and comes to a perfect, nonscreeching halt at the red light. He chuckles and shakes his head, clearly in the car lover’s private nirvana. “I tell ya, mate, a fast car is the absolute best gift a man can give himself.”

You can see the full interview here. Jason goes on to talk about racing a Mercedes SL55 AMG and other car-related topics from his real life and movie roles.
